ABSTRACT
Our knowledge of the port of Sumhuram in Khor Rori area (Figure 7.1) has been augmented, and the reconstruction of its history has been revised in recent years. Sumhuram is located in an extremely favourable position overlooking the sea, about 35 km east of the modern city of Salalah. Two final reports and several articles have been published since the Italian Mission to Oman (IMTO) of the University of Pisa began its excavation at Khor Rori in 1997.1 The preliminary reports of every expedition conducted so far can be accessed and downloaded from the portal Arabia Antica (https:// arabiantica.humnet.unipi.it).
