ABSTRACT

Vilinjam, also spelt as Vizhinjam (18° 22′ N and 76° 58′ E) is today a sleepy fishing hamlet situated 17 km south of Thiruvananthapuram, the capital city of Kerala. Exploration and excavation at Vizhinjam over the last few years have yielded many new artifacts revealing an unknown facet of Vizhinjam’s history and international maritime trade (Kumar 2006a: 72-80).
