ABSTRACT

This chapter offers an overview of the relevant themes and topics discussed in the book. The concepts of Cultural Representation and Cultural Politics are introduced as closely linked. It also examines the relevance of the Philippines for Spanish Foreign Affairs Policies since the end of the 1990s. This is explained in the context of a historical relationship between the two countries. The reference to the shared colonial history inevitably leads to a discussion of several colonial discourses, and recent postcolonial criticism from leading Filipino scholars such as Fernando Zialcita, Priscelina Patajo-Legasto, and Sionil José.
