ABSTRACT
Although there had been indications of this earlier, Europe underwent dramatic changes in demographic development beginning in the last third of the twentieth century. For the first time in two thousand years, Europe’s population stopped growing. Its populace was not reproducing itself, had started aging, and was decreasing in numbers. Of course, population growth always underwent lengthy cycles and multifarious stages throughout European history. Let’s take a bird’seye view of it.
