ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on analyzing editing and assembly procedures in various audio-visual pieces, including fiction, news items, commercials, video clips, etc. It also presents examples of new formats designed to be viewed on the Internet and mobile phones. While filming action scenes points that need to be remembered are: Distances; The cut; Continuity; Perspective; Detail; The unexpected; and Synchrony. A few points should be kept in kind while filming dramatic scenes. These include: the location, entrances and exits of the characters in the frame and use the direction of the dialogue, looks and turns to make cuts which show that something important is happening. While filming comedy sequences, points that need to be remembered are: lengthen the shots to prolong the comic effect and to give the viewer time to laugh; and Introduce dramatic elements or changes of angle to recover with greater intensity the comic section with the lead actor.
