ABSTRACT

Governance and public corruption are attracting a lot of attention around the world, especially in developing countries such as Nigeria that is currently midwifing another civilian administration where the mantra is change. This issue has transformed from a predominately national phenomenon to a global issue. Global reaction against corruption has swept the international political landscape. No region and hardly any nation have been immune from this process. Indeed, any attempt to understand the tragedy of development and the challenges to development in Nigeria should come to grip withy the nature of governance, and public corruption, and stupendous wastage of scarce resources by public office holders. However, it is agreed that bad governance and corruption are inimical to public office holders, it undermines democracy, degrades moral fabrics of the society and development.
