ABSTRACT

In our second multigroup application, we test hypotheses related to the equivalencies of self-concept measurement and structure across male and female high school adolescents. In particular, we wish to determine if multidimensional facets of selfconcept (general, academic, English, mathematics), and the subscale scores from multiple assessment instruments used to measure these constructs, are equivalent across gender for this population. This application is taken from a study by Byrne and Shavelson (1987) as a follow-up to their earlier work that validated the structure of self-concept for high school adolescents in general (Byrne & Shavelson, 1986).
