ABSTRACT

The past three decades have witnessed the development of several telecommunication network technologies that have stretched the geographical limits and hastened the pace of human communication and business transactions. Foremost among them is a set of network technologies known popularly as the “Internet.” Ever since the introduction in 1995 of the World Wide Web, a user-friendly graphical Internet interface, the popularity of Internet has skyrocketed. Today, there are an estimated 148.7 million users of the Internet in North America and some 320.7 users worldwide. This can be seen in Fig. 6.1.
