ABSTRACT

I started using hypnosis in 1949 when I was supervised at the N.J. State Diagnostic Center in Menlo Park by a psychiatrist, Dr. Ralph Brancale. I found it useful in some instances, especially to reveal my clients’ thoughts and feelings that they did not easily disclose. I got my Boards in Clinical Hypnosis in the 1950s and kept using hypnosis from time to time when I originated and started using Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy (REBT) in 1955 (Ellis, 1962, 1994, 1995). At first, I mainly used authoritarian-oriented hypnosis.
