ABSTRACT

Business pressures, such as competition and globalization, together with technological

developments and the convergence of computer and communications technology to

computer mediated communications (CMC) have led to an explosion of new and diverse

forms of technology. The nature of information technologies in the office environment is

changing. Although electronic mail (e-mail) is perhaps the most high-profile CMC, voice

mail, fax, video conferencing, and shared whiteboards, together with traditional media

such as the telephone, paper memos, and face-to-face meetings, all provide channels

through which work takes place.
