Promoting English Through English Read-Alouds in a Third-Grade Bilingual Classroom

Sonia’s story tells about her journey of inquiry during her first year of teaching-at the very school she attended as a child! Her third graders, many of whom were recent arrivals, had very limited English skills. They were also scared to learn English. Sonia decided on read-alouds as the primary classroom context in which she could foster her students’ understanding and appreciation of English.
