ABSTRACT

This chapter builds on our understanding of the sample range and the sample standard deviation. The sample range is the difference between the highest and lowest score in a data distribution. The sample standard deviation is the square root of the sample variance. When the size of the sample increases, the range of data values will generally increase. The standard deviation with increasing sample sizes should divide the frequency distribution of data into six parts. You should be able to observe the effect of sample size on these measures of data dispersion when completing the chapter exercises.
