ABSTRACT

I have taught eleventh-grade history and twelfth-grade government at Bradley High School in New York State for 2 years. I’m beginning to feel at home in this urban environment, populated largely by minority students, most of whom are African American, even though I’m only 25 and not African American. The “only 25” bit makes me most uncomfortable. My colleagues must average 45, on a good day. On a bad day they look like I feel-about 60.
