ABSTRACT
As the educational systems of the United States prepare to organize to deliver and ensure a better education for all students, the goal of preparing teachers who are culturally responsible should be at the top of the list. The authors of this paper contend that educators who are culturally responsible are absolutely necessary to reduce the huge disparities in academic achievement among students from diverse backgrounds. Teacher preparation programs must understand that they playa major role in the lack of academic success for many students.
