ABSTRACT
Many reasons exist for choosing materials for classroom reading or school libraries, such as the literary value of the works, the maturity and reading ability of the students, the time available for teaching a novel, the achievement of a balance between contemporary books and classics, and the integration of writings by women and multicultural authors into the traditional canon.
