As implied by its definition as the sum total of the qualities, traits, and behaviors of a person and by which, together with his or her physical attributes, the person is recognized as unique, personality is perhaps the most individual of all human differences. Despite a century of research, human personality remains one of the most elusive and profound of all mysteries. Even our descriptions of personality are, in a very real sense, rudimentary.
