Differences Across the Life Span

Biological and psychological differences among individuals are apparent from birth. Newborns already possess physical and behavioral characteristics that set them apart from each other: They vary in weight, length, Apgar rating,1 and a host of other measurements. Baby and child care books may provide helpful information that applies to children in general, but distinctions must still be made between the capabilities and other characteristics of different children.
