ABSTRACT

In recent decades, multiculturalism has become a key term in the educational and psychological literature. Typically, multiculturalism means the acknowledgment of cultural pluralism. It involves supporting cultural variety, maintaining diversity, sometimes, this involves actively protecting minority cultures from unification tendencies. However, this term has different connotations in different regions of Europe. For example, in Switzerland, multiculturalism has been the way of life for centuries. In some Western European countries, coexistence with immigrants from other cultures inspired the elaboration of multicultural education. In recent years, multiculturalism is most often mentioned in relation to the European unification process, which resulted in unprecedented communication among Western European nations.
