ABSTRACT

Furthermore, most team members believe that the evaluation of their performance should be adjusted for a unique set of forces that may help or hinder them, factors that are out of their control, such as the actions of their competitors, changes in the market, or new demands from the organization. They are essentially asking, “Given the circumstances, how are we doing?” They want an answer to this question even though they may not have produced any tangible results nor are there any hard data (financial or otherwise) to reflect their performance. They often want to know how they compare to other teams, even though “other teams” is usually ill-defined and may be embedded in different organizational contexts with different tasks, customers, and ways of measuring their performance.
