ABSTRACT

Near the end of Jurassic Park (the book, that is), Ian Malcolm lies dying from injuries sustained in a run-in with a tyrannosaur. (We subsequently learn that he is only mostly dead at the end of Jurassic Park and manages to recover enough to star in the sequels, both book and film.) In a semicoma, Malcolm whispers, “Everything…looks different…on the other side” (Crichton, 1990, p. 383). Those of us who develop online writing environments may be in a similar state:

ensconced in a dying system but able to glimpse a new and very different world beyond it.
