ABSTRACT

The loss of a spouse may be a sad, painful, or devastating experience. It may bring on feelings of loneliness and despair; it may mean financial ruin or at least difficult times ahead in caring for one’s family; it may mark the loss of social support and contacts; it may even precipitate a decline in physical health. It may also mean relief or pleasure to some survivors.
