ABSTRACT

We began the last chapter by speculating what will happen to the baby boom generation in the next few decades in light of the changes in divorce and remarriage that have occurred or will occur in the next few years. There is no need to project into the future to find relevance for the topic of this chapter, because in this chapter, we examine perceived responsibility to older family members after marital transitions in the next generation, and the next generation currently is those same baby boomers who became adults during the period of time that saw the largest increase in divorce rates in U.S. history.
