ABSTRACT
They are children referred to now, and in the past, with the appropriate designation of borderline and this diagnosis remains, despite some controversy, indicated and justifiable, given its clinical and treatment implications. To minimize the extent and nuance of inner disturbance, particularly with respect to ego functions and object relations capacity, is to negate the importance of the degree of inner disruption and disarray, to lose the essence of the importance of the inner representational world and the mediating role that this plays on informing object relations and ego functioning.
