On Seeing Spatial Expressions

Since spatial expressions are used to convey information in conversations and other forms of communication, it also seems likely that they are used as part of the mechanism for spatial perception. This chapter describes an approach that implements part of this mechanism to combine two separate exocentric and egocentric representations within a single framework for scene description. The objective of this framework is to support the interpretation of spatial relationships between objects while using the scene as its own best memory.
