ABSTRACT

Of all the psychiatric syndromes, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and conduct disorder (CD) are the most closely related to delinquency. We discuss these two syndromes in this chapter (followed by physical aggression and covert behaviors in chap. 9 and depressed mood and shy/withdrawn behavior in chap. 10). Therefore, the later chapters in this volume concern the mental health aspects of disruptive child behaviors. ADHD score, depressed mood, and shy/withdrawn behavior were considered earlier as explanatory variables, but they are treated as outcome variables in these chapters.
