ABSTRACT

And so we come to the end of our inquiry into the behaviorism-mentalism controversy. A variety of viewpoints have been considered, analyzed, evaluated, and summarized. The nature of the two contending sides has been clarified so that readers should now be aware of what I believe are the salient issues and what are the irrelevant ones. However, it would be ostentatious to even suggest the matter has been settled. It is still the case that not everyone will agree with anything, much less everything, that has been concluded so far. The war between mentalism and behaviorism is not going to be resolved by this book or by any other. It remains a battle between deeply held positions that has been continuing for centuries.
