ABSTRACT

A discussion of the cognitive and behavioral treatment of the obsessive-compulsive (OC) spectrum disorders necessitates a conceptual distinction between obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) spectrum disorders and those traditionally referred to as comorbid conditions. The OC spectrum, as presently conceived, is a series of major psychiatric disorders clinically related by significant obsessions or compulsions as core symptomatology. Comorbidity refers to the simultaneous coexistence of two or more psychiatric disorders that may or may not be related. Spectrum disorders may, therefore, be in addition considered comorbid when they coexist.
