ABSTRACT

What I found of particular interest was the way in which all of the authors addressed

ideas of prior experience from their very different perspectives. For example, Morrissey

(chapter 16) explored ways in which an object can encourage visitors to share prior

experiences in sharing with others personal stories and experiences with objects. Pope

and Banks Beane (chapter 18) regarded the whole museum as an object and addressed

ideas of access to this object being determined by prior experiences. Crowley and

Leinhardt (chapter 17) discussed the important influence of the perceived value and

authenticity of objects, two perceptions that are created by past experiences.
