ABSTRACT
The term critical period should not be used unless it is accompanied by (a) an approximate onset and terminus of the period, (b) the most exact specification of the critical period stimulus to which the organism is most sensitive, and (c) a correspondingly exact specification of the critical system that will be affected later on by exposure to, or deprivation of, the stimulus during the period.
