ABSTRACT

Socialization training during the second year is generally focused on the inhibition of undesirable behaviors—that is, parents begin to impose restrictions on activities that are unacceptable but that the child normally finds pleasurable; they demand that he inhibit certain kinds of behavior that he enjoys.… Toilet and cleanliness training, and the tasks of curbing tantrums, destructive activities, and unrestricted exploration and wandering are generally initiated when the child is between 12 and 18 months of age.
