ABSTRACT

Friday night is basketball night at Havens High. In these winter months, the gym is usually about three fourths full. Just inside the west entrance of the building, in the hallway, is the ticket booth. Food is sold by the junior class and large jars are on the counter to collect money to support various students who are trying to go on special trips-an international cheerleaders event in England or a chance to play basketball in Australia as part of a special international team are among the options. High school students crowd around the entrance and line up at the stand to buy Snickers, popcorn, or Cokes. The superintendent, principal, vice principal and counselors are all wearing their HHS shirts or sweatshirts, newly purchased for the season.
