ABSTRACT

This chapter addresses the psychological aspects of reconciliation of employment and family life. The focus is on the double burden of women and the relative importance of working conditions and conditions in the home for the well-being of women and men, with particular emphasis placed on the role of the family situation for the psychological well-being of employed mothers. The point of departure for the chapter is a theoretical framework for analysis of constraints in contemporary family life. The empirical analysis is based on data collected in Sweden from 670 parents with preschool children.
