ABSTRACT

The issue of women’s health has long been neglected. This statement applies to many medical areas, but it has become most evident in the field of cardiology. Cardiology has traditionally been a medical specialty that seemed to be created by men, for men. Male patients have been visible and dominant in every aspect of cardiology from research to clinical care (e.g., in coronary care units). In this context it is easy to understand why most women believe they will die from cancer rather than from heart disease.
