ABSTRACT

In this chapter, the focus is on the story that is interpreted by participants during group discussion. In constructing and interpreting a story after the reading process, participants in a social situation create a collective text. This story reflects individual and/or group voices depending on the participant, the goal of the event, and the features of the text. Reactive texts produced in small group discussions of fifth graders, seventh graders, and eighth graders serve as illustrations of the so cial construction of meaning.
