ABSTRACT
In this chapter, the teachers’ roles in story events are explored, with an emphasis on their ways of mediating authors’ texts. A study of these roles reveals how teachers’ rules and expectations socialize students into their roles as storymakers. Text events in three classrooms serve to illustrate how teachers mediate text for their students by signaling authors’ cues and evoking readers’ processes of constructing, interpreting, and signifying stories.
