Analysis of Variance I: The One-Way Design
In a study of fecundity of fruit flies, per diem fecundity (number of eggs laid per female per day for the first 14 days of life) for 25 females of each of three genetic lines of the fruit fly Drosophila melanogaster was recorded. The results are shown in Table 3.1. The lines labeled RS and SS were selectively bred for resistance and for susceptibility to the pesticide, DDT, and the NS line as a nonselected control strain. Of interest here is whether the data give any evidence of a difference in fecundity of the three strains.
