ABSTRACT

This chapter highlights some of the ways in which the computerized digital realm has influenced the visual discourse of the print media by detailing some of the defining features of the visual information structures found in recent magazines. The analysis and descriptions focus on connectivity as a feature of traditional print media and information structures, gradually shifting and ultimately focusing on a synergy between traditional print and emerging digital pages and their information structures. Many of the pages highlight notions of connectivity and continuity through their manipulation of common design tools like line, color, texture, and space. Another collection of pages emphasizes grandiose visions of connectivity and continuity, with particular attention paid to the uniting of individuals over vast geographical distances. The chapter presents an example of the digital realm and the print realm combining in one of the most comprehensively integrated visual formats encountered.
