Understanding where we are-in communicating
Moving between It is important to remember that even though I have made a distinction between the role of hero in the moral dimension and the role of author in the aesthetic dimension, these are only useful fictions, as it were. Nothing is stationary in communicating-we are always moving on and moving between. So what is it we are doing when we are moving between? I want to suggest that this moving between could usefully be thought of as a "trueing" process. Again, I am drawing on Dewey for my arguments here. Recall that at the end of chapter 2, I mentioned Dewey's arguments about the need to move from the entity/noun form tothe gerund/verb form. Well, he has argued similarly for the notion oftruth.
