ABSTRACT

INC (incremental conceptotalizer) is a cognitively motivated model of the first

component of the language production process, conceptualization. It produces

preverbal output for the domain of giving on-line descriptions of events that has

the same structure as verbalizations of humans given the same task. The

architecture and processing mechanisms of INC are based on simple,

cognitively motivated principles. Its behavior is controlled by parameters that

are set according to the available resources. Thus, INC requires no explicit and

complex instructions about how to perform a given verbalization task, e.g. with

respect to the level of detail, because the level of detail is an effect that depends

on resources.
