ABSTRACT
One of the most general meanings of the concept of a relationship between pairs of variables is that knowledge with regard to one of the variables carries informa tion about the other variable. Thus, information about the height of a child in elementary school would have implications for the probable age of the child, and information about the occupation of an adult would lead to more accurate guesses about his income level than could be made in the absence of that information.
