ABSTRACT

Necessarily, a chapter-length presentation of causal analysis cannot begin to do justice to the subject matter in its entirety. Therefore, this chapter will be limited to these three relatively modest goals: to introduce readers to the concepts and terminology used in causal analyses, to provide some techniques and illustrations for the simpler procedures, and to present a glimpse of the variety of options available to the data analyst who wishes to extract fully the information con tained in an appropriate data set.
