ABSTRACT

In this chapter, I discuss the methodology I used throughout this longitudinal study and provide some additional information about the teachers who are the heart of this study and whose stories were told in the following four chapters. This chapter also contains a rather traditional discussion of the data sources, data collection methods, and data analysis procedures employed during this research. However, because this study spanned 15 years and the field of educational research changed during that time, I discuss changes in approaches to research with teachers at some length. Furthermore, during this study, I developed my own skills and increased my knowledge base as a qualitative researcher, so I also discuss how some procedures changed during this study.
