ABSTRACT

Gifted children have always intrigued us, inspiring fascination and awe as well as intimidation and envy. They have been feared as oddballs, and rejected as nerds. Our schools often refuse to alter the curriculum for such children and insist that they can take care of themselves. As a result these children often suffer in our schools. Gifted children are our most important national resource, for from these children will emerge many of the adults who shape our thinking and our culture. Thus a better understanding of these children is in order so that they may be better served, and so that their gifts can be nurtured.
