ABSTRACT

Our job is to help the learner to learn. It is the students’ job to learn. We have discussed meaningful learning and what the learner must do to learn with understanding. The learner must actively engage in testing and refining the mental models that she or he is building. However, there is a crucial element needed for success that our model cannot guarantee. Students must be willing to participate in this process. In many cases, getting students to participate in classroom activities can be quite a challenge. So, the question is, “How do I get my students to ‘play the game’?”
