ABSTRACT

The importance of quality as well as quantity of survival must now be clear. Questions of definition and measurement have proved more difficult. The most common definitions of QOL acknowledge the fact that it is multidimensional, includes the impact on the child as well as the family, and must be sensitive to the changes that occur throughout childhood and adolescence. Where possible, ratings of QOL must be made by the individual child rather than a proxy (parent, teacher, or clinician).
