ABSTRACT

The adjectives that first come to mind when we think about geniuses as a category of people are largely cognitive ones-clever, insightful, knowledgeable, sharp, creative, and intelligent. For me, it came as a surprise to discover, on starting to make efforts to explain how and why some individuals have become capable of the achievements that justify calling someone a genius, that many of the most powerful mental influences are ones that are largely extracognitive rather than specifically intellectual.
