ABSTRACT

In this book I am concerned with using observational methods, primarily in ev eryday settings. By observational methods I mean methods that are based on di rect observations of behavior. These methods are, in turn, helpful in describing the behavior of individuals and groups of individuals as they interact in real time. An important goal of this method is to provide the reader with a verbal pic ture of behaviors as they unfold in time. These descriptions, as seen throughout this book, are very useful for a number of important ventures, such as working with children and families at home, or in school.
