ABSTRACT

The Oxford Concise Dictionary (1982) defines ethics as "relating to morals; mor ally correct, honourable" (p. 331). What, you may ask, is the question of ethics and morality doing in a textbook on research methods in psychology and educa tion? Scientific research is after all, an honorable enterprise, aspiring to the lofty heights in search of truth. However, what is deemed to be ethical to one person may not be so obviously to another, and, unfortunately, scientists sometimes take less than ethical routes to these heights.
