ABSTRACT
With the referendum of June 2, 1946, Italy became a parliamentary Republic. The Italian Parliament has two chambers, the Chamber of Deputies (630 members) and the Senate (315 members plus 11 Senators for life), which are elected for a 5-year term. The president of the Republic is elected for a 7-year term by an electoral college composed of members of the two chambers.
