ABSTRACT
Brazil is the largest country in South American, fifth in the world, with extensions of land greater than the continental United States. Diverse in its physical and human geography, it houses a population of about 170 million inhabiting five regions with specific environmental and climatic characteristics. These have influenced socioeconomic and political history regionally since Portuguese occupation and colonization at the onset of the 16th century.
